A while ago some good friends of ours cleaned out one of their sheds, and found, much to their surprise, a whole lot of wood, either cut up for turning, or clearly cutoffs from other turning jobs. The main body of this box is from one of these pieces, a block of meranti, with a some nail holes in it (adds authenticity!).
The lid is a piece of mahogany, from yet another haul of wood (see the windfall post on the blog), and the button on top is ebony, also from our friends.
The whole assembly looks similar to a small pile of pebbles, hence the name.
