Memory of olden times

The contrast between the intense shades of red and the golden collar, which intentionally is rubbed to appear as if this was an old, loved and used piece, make me think of museum pieces from centuries ago. The classic shape is timeless, and has been in use since the golden age of Athens 2500 years ago (if not longer).

Several layers of lacquer, burnished to a soft gloss, bring out the chatoyance in the wood, which is further enhanced by the various shades of red and black dye.

This will make a show piece for a lounge, but can only be used on its own or with dry contents.
