This is a perfect example of just letting a shape evolve from a piece of wood. It breaks all the usual rules of proportions, and resembles an archaic dish for sacrificial offerings, but is finely finished with a deep red dye and semi-glossy lacquer. The rim has some gold spray applied to it, and the inside of the bowl displays the beautiful grain of sycamore that has started to decay, with swirls of ocre, orange, white and even a bit of spalting.
